Kevin Butler’s Players of the Game: Georgia vs. Tennessee 2022
Kevin Butler

Offensive Player

Warren McClendon – We warned those Vols about our run game and they did not believe the Bulldogs could run it down their throats until we did! Led by the tackles McClendon (6-4, 300-pound, redshirt junior from Brunswick) and Broderick Jones, we dominated the Volunteer defensive line opening holes all game. The Bulldogs forced their will on the Tennessee defense and it all started on the line of scrimmage. The big boys up front drove defensive lineman down the field all day. This is the signature of a championship football team and as we always say it starts and ends with the men upfront.

Defensive Player

Javon Bullard – It doesn’t happen much but for the second week in a row the sophomore from Milledgeville, took over for the Georgia defense and made a huge statement as he continues to develop into one of our leading defensive backs. Javon had seven solo tackles in the game against Tennessee, as well as two corner blitz’s that resulted in sacks for loss- against what Americans call the best “Hooker” in college football. His play helped enable the defense to dictate the pace of the game against the most productive offense in college football. Javon is very focused, and playing at a very high-level at the right time of the year.

Special team Player

Brett Thorson  – The wonder from down under created his own thunder Saturday versus the Volunteers with a first quarter 75 yard part that went out at the 1-yard line. That punt set the stadium into a frenzy and our defense awarded the fans with a tremendous defensive stance. Thorson, a freshman who stands 6-2, averaged 50 yards on four punts and really turn the tide on the Volunteers with his timely bomb which destroyed all of Tennessee’s hopes very early in the game. Brett has done a fabulous job his first year netting 40 yards for the Bulldogs. As we go down the stretch to defend our title, special teams will play a huge role and Brett found out how he can be your hero against the Vols.
