Offensive Player
Nate Frazier Jr. – The freshman from Compton, California showed why he was the number one tailback coming out of high school last year with his best performance of the year against the Florida gators. His 19 carries were a career high for 82 yards and a touchdown, which gave Georgia a huge boost in a rushing game that has not been up to par with past Bulldog squads. Nate learned a lot about the SEC with his performance, but one thing he learned from Coach Smart was to act like a bulldog when you get in the end zone. Nate’s action on the field is big enough to do all the talking for him. Nate has the ability to be the workhorse for the Bulldogs offense as they charge towards the College Football Playoff.
Defensive Player
CJ Allen – The sophomore linebacker from Barnesville, Georgia elevated his game to a new level Saturday in Jacksonville against Florida. CJ is quietly becoming the leader of this Georgia defense. The best kind of leader is the ”leader by example” and that is the leadership that CJ delivered with his performance on Saturday. Allen recorded eight tackles, three solos and a game changing interception in the fourth quarter to help put the Bulldogs ahead for good. CJ is tough and very disciplined. That’s the kind of play that led to him being in the right place at the right time and seal the Bulldogs fourth straight victory over the hated and hopeless Gators.
Special team Player
Peyton Woodring – Not much more to say about Peyton‘s performance than perfection! The sophomore from Lafayette, Louisiana done went down to Florida and killed him some gators with a very accurate toe. Woodring’s field goals of 53 yards and 23 yards split the uprights to keep the Bulldogs in a very tight game against those dreaded gators. In the end, Peyton Woodring continues to be one of the best kickers in college football in his sophomore season. Take it from me Peyton: kickers can get distracted. There’s a lot more animals out there besides Gators that need to be focused on, like the next one up! Keep it up.
Unsung Hero of the Game
Special Teams – The heroes against the gators were the special teams. In a game that was competed so closely, special team play was even more important, and the Bulldogs certainly came out on top in that category. Our heroes come in the form of the field goal block team and the punt return team. Many defenses focus on blocking the kick, but Saturday the Bulldogs took advantage of another opportunity. The botched snap! Great heads-up play by our defensive backs to attack the ball and regain possession for the Bulldogs after the Gator mistake. That great play paved the way for a bulldog touchdown. As for the punt return team, they overcame a substitution with Evans being out and controlled every punt that the Gators had against the Bulldogs. Malaki Starks did a wonderful job catching and protecting the football. Great job from all the special teams for being our unsung hero this week.
