Michael Barnett practices with the offensive line 10/19/2016

After practice on Tuesday, Kirby Smart announced to the media that three players would be making position changes for this week in practice and possibly the foreseeable future.

The three players that will be making position changes are Tae Crowder, Michael Barnett, and Shakenneth Williams.

Crowder will be making the move from running back to linebacker and should provide even more depth to the Bulldogs already thin inside linebacker position. Smart went on to say that Crowder will also work on pass rushing, which means he may also work out with the Bulldogs outside linebacking corps.

Shakenneth Williams will be making the move from wide receiver to defensive backs and he too will provide more depth for the Bulldogs secondary and could see some special teams time.

Michael Barnett will be trying to see how he could fit as an offensive line after not making the defensive line’s rotation, in the season thus far. He will start by working out at offensive tackle but putting Barnett on the offensive line is just an experiment that the Bulldogs coaching staff is doing to help better utilize him. Barnett played some offensive line in high school; so, he will have some experience at this position but seeing if he can play at the collegiate level will be interesting to see. If Barnett finds success in practice, it will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs can turn another defensive lineman into an everyday starter on the offensive line like Lamont Gaillard.

Smart went on to say that the coaching staff believes these three players are better athletes than where they are on their current spot on the depth chart. Smart said he wants to see how they can help the team’s roster and also said that he believes Tae Crowder and Shakenneth Williams may be able to help on special teams.

It will be interesting to see if any of these three players are able to make a sizeable impact either this season or in the future for the Bulldogs.
