Kirby Smart took a moment on Tuesday at SEC Media Days to brag on senior Bulldog tight end Jeb Blazevich and his off the field work with the AFCA Team Works.

“But before bragging on the three student-athletes we brought to represent us today, I’d like to brag on one that I actually brought last year, which doesn’t normally happen, but Jeb Blazevich, who is on the AFCA Team Works, along with three other football player from the University of Georgia and 15 student-athletes went on a service learning trip to Costa Rica. They gave away over 2,000 pairs of shoes to impoverished children in a Soles4Soul project. Any time you do that as a student- athlete, it speaks volumes about your ability to give back to others. There will be a lot of things talked about today, wins and losses and all these things that are great for football, but at the end of the day what Jeb and those three other football players from the University of Georgia did, impacted so many more lives. I think that’s what this sport is about, and it’s also the things they’ve done.”

Blazevich was one of 19 members of the UGA Athletic Association’s Student-Athlete Leadership Academy (L.E.A.D.) that volunteered to go to Central America earlier this year, from May 6 through May 12, to bring donated sneakers through the Soles4Soul project to children of Costa Rica.

The Soles4Soul project “believes everyone around the world deserves a good pair of shoes.” You can find out more about Soles4Soul by visiting their website at https://soles4souls.org/E.

In 2016, Jeb Blazevich was one of 12 athletes named to the AFCA Allstate Good Works Team for his work with organizations like the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Georgia Transplant Foundation as well as the Extra Special People organization. He was also a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy, an award given to a college football player for their work in their community, and Blazevich was also named to the SEC Football Community Service Team.

Blazevich returns with Bulldogs to finish out his senior season at UGA having played in over 39 games and starting 33 of them. He along with sophomore Isaac Nauta, who burst on the scene between the hedges as a freshman, sophomore Charlie Woerner, fellow senior Jordan Davis, and junior Jackson Harris will make up one of the more talented tight end position groups in all of college football.
