Kirby Smart spoke to the media for the second time this week on Saturday. He talked about the team’s second scrimmage and challenged the fans yet again to come out for G-Day. Smart included that the bigger the crowd the better it is for the younger guys.
G-Day is on April 21, 2018, with a 4 p.m. kick off time. Smart opens his press conference urging fans to come out on the 21st. He claims that it helps the players get use to a game-day atmosphere. Smart goes on to say that it challenges the early enrollees and guys that are new to the bigger roles.
We are a week away from G-Day,” Smart says. We’re certainly excited for what forecasters are suggesting will be a great weather day. And we are challenging our fans to come out. There is no greater ability to challenge our team and younger players than to put whatever the maximum number of fans the stadium will seat right now in there. Our fans have been incredible this season and they’ll have the chance to come out and see our players, our early enrollees come out and compete.”
Another Georgia figure informing the fans about G-Day is the athletic director Greg McGarity. On Friday he released his usual “McGarity’s Minutes” on Friday which includes updates on The West End Zone Project. The email includes information on G-Day too.
McGarity says the first things fans should notice is the jumbo screen. “Our new Daktronics high definition LED video board is 30% larger and is now 52′ high x100′ wide. The new board will provide greater image quality and higher brightness. It has also moved over 30′ to the west, which now allows fans sitting in the southwestern and northwestern sections of the stadium to actually see the video board for the first time,” McGarity tells in the email. The jumbo screen seems to be what fans are most excited for.
Another thing McGarity notes is a new audio system. According to the email, it’s a new 260,000 watt Danley Sound Labs audio system. Finally, he notes that there will be a Dawg Walk on the 21st. McGarity finishes his email saying that the Dawg Walk will take place along the pathway between the Tate Center and the Miller Learning Center at 2:50 p.m.
Smart and McGarity both urge fans to come out and support the team on the 21st. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 1 p.m.
