In Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart’s press conference on Monday, he took questions on Georgia’s last home game at Sanford Stadium for the season but made it clear that the focus was on the team’s next opponent.
Georgia struggled heavily in every facet of the game on the road against the Auburn Tigers, but Kirby Smart is focused on how they have moved on and how they are preparing for Kentucky. Smart is already pleased with what he has seen as the team has made it clear that they are looking to improve and get back to their winning ways.
“First thing I have seen is guys came in here with a good attitude yesterday ready to work, good spirits, leaders talking and communicating. I got to be around the players and eat with them yesterday,” said Smart. “These players they will respond the right way.”
Smart clearly has a lot of trust in this team and he knows that the leadership on this team will be able to motivate and get this team back on track. He knows that the leader’s demeanor will be how this team will bounce back from this loss and mentioned two guys that he knows they can look up to.
“We preach the message and a lot of that demeanor is created through the body language of the coaching staff and the training staff and the players. The leaders,” said Smart. “How does Roquan (Smith) go out and practice? How does Nick Chubb? How does Sony (Michel)? A lot of guys will be looking to them and how they respond is kind of the right way to go about it.”
Smart knows how important the leaders are to this team and how they can help the team move on to the next game. However, it has become abundantly clear that Smart has already moved on as he said, “The focus for us is totally on the Big Blue because we have to go out here and stop these guys,” and the team must take this mindset as well if they hope to finish off the season undefeated at home and against the SEC East.
