Dell McGhee appears to be a running back mastermind. He’s reeled in quite a few exciting prospects and develops them into studs on the field. The running backs coach often says, “think less, work more.” Smart weighed in on the saying and said he liked it.
The head coach says that he hasn’t used that phrase himself, but thinks its good for the running back group. Georgia has quite a few running backs that are competing for time, and the best way to keep that off their mind could be this saying. McGee has gotten these five-star running backs convinced that if they continue to work, their time will come. Smart likes this a lot.
“I haven’t actually used that saying but it’s a good one. Think Less, Work more is good for a running back and a lot of times that’s what it’s about,” Smart said. “Don’t sit there and think about where you are on the depth chart. Be instinctive. Respond when you get the ball and do what you naturally do. If you’re here as a running back, you’re probably pretty talented. Think less, don’t overcoach things. Work more. Those backs work; I’ll give them that. They compete. They’re on special teams. They do it all.”
Georgia’s hallowed running back roster probably hears this phrase a lot. The Bulldogs know how to share the load and know that its what it takes to win not about what they do. Smart said that the running backs work hard in practice, on special teams and everything thrown at them. Running backs can virtually do it all, and this motto seems to fit their role perfectly.
