Kirby Smart addressed the media on Saturday after day six of spring practice. The head coach had plenty to say and talk about. He critiqued the secondary, especially the safeties, saying that he had a lot of concerns with them. However, he did have some positive thoughts concerning youngster, Tray Bishop. 

Bishop is a sophomore defensive back from Dawson, Georgia. He didn’t get any playing time last year but has ample opportunity to get some this season. Smart said that he’s learning along with another 2017 classmate, Latavious Brini. He claims that he challenges them daily because the Bulldogs need depth at safety.

 It’s a learning process for him,” Smart claims.  “He and Latavious Brini both, those two guys I challenge every day.  If you go ask them, they probably don’t like me right now because I am riding them.  Our depth at safety is a very serious concern and they are part of that depth.  They aren’t ready to play yet and I don’t necessarily think they should be ready to play, but I think they should be on their way.  They were unique last year because you didn’t see them play, but they took a ton of reps in practice.  I challenge them every day to get where we can trust you to put you in the game because you are one play away.”

Bishop and Brini have a perfect opportunity to capitalize on with the lack of depth at safety. With Smart riding their tails, they’ll either make it or they won’t. Only time will tell if Smart’s challenges will be answered and they play this season.
