Winning always makes life a little bit easier on the recruiting trail and Kirby Smart knows that this year’s team’s performance may have given the Bulldogs the boost they needed to have such a dominant early national signing day.

 

The Bulldogs now sit atop the list of team recruiting rankings on many of the major recruiting sites and this should not come as a major surprise after the showing they had today. The Bulldogs beat out Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and other top programs for multiple five and four-star recruits on this first early national signing day period.
 
 
The state of Georgia always has been a recruiting hotbed, but the Bulldogs have always struggled to fend off other schools from pulling kids away from the state. However, Kirby Smart and his staff have done an outstanding job of putting this class together and he credits the team’s performance for the recruiting success.
 
 

“I think the University sold itself,” said Smart. “The year that we had kind of created some momentum and tidal wave effect to bring in some extra guys.”

 
 
Smart went on to mention how this had been a concern for many recruits and the Bulldogs ability to prove that they could contend for championships was a selling point for a large majority of the Bulldogs early signees.
 
 

“I obviously think that our momentum on the field because there were numerous kids that, when we recruited them in the summer, they said ‘Coach, I really want to come to Georgia. I just want to know that we are going to play for championships and that it is going to be special,'” said Smart.”We played well. I think people saw the success we had and they saw a lot of the games we played and they want to be part of that winning program.”

 
 
Smart did not forget to mention all of the hard work that the Bulldogs assistant coaches and recruiting staff had put in, in order to put this class together and he understands how big of a role they played in the team’s recruiting success.
 
 

“When you hire really good coaches and you give them the power to go out and do what they’ve got to do, and you give them ability to do it, they’ve done a great job recruiting this class,” said Smart. “I have to give the position coaches a lot of credit as they’ve done a good job building relationships with these kids.”

 
 
Although this recruiting cycle is not completely over, the Bulldogs have a great shot at retaining the top spot on the national sites and bringing the recruiting title to Athens in February. However, one aspect that could especially help them do that is if they bring home a national title in a few weeks.
