[su_spacer size=”20″] Kolton Houston, UGA’s 6th year senior offensive lineman and starting right tackle, talks to the media about the Dawgs’ first scrimmage of Fall Camp; how the offense fared overall and discusses the offensive line.

The offense, we did a really good job. We probably met every single one of our goals that we had for the day; so, a good day for the offense.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Houston is asked about what the offense wants to accomplish during a team’s first scrimmage at Fall Camp:

When we say it’s a scrimmage, it’s not like you go 3 plays and then you’re off the field. It’s a little different. You want to see tempo. You want to see effort, and you want to see assignments. It’s live, but we are not cutting defensive guys. You just want to see if you are getting in the right position, up-tempo, and effort is the main thing you want to look at.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Houston is asked about the quarterback competition currently between Bauta, Lambert, and Ramsey:

They’re all three good … All three are doing really good. We’ll be fine with whichever one gets to go out there.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Houston was pressed further about the quarterback competition and asked whether it was good or not that they haven’t settled on 1 or 2 QBs at this point and time. Is there a point at which he as a player wants to know who will be the starting QB?

No. Not really. I mean, 27 left and 27 right sounds pretty good to me. I think as long as we got that, we are going to be all right.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Kolton is asked about the disparity in the readiness of the 1st and 2nd unit offensive lines that Coach Mark Richt addressed during UGA’s post-scrimmage presser and if that was something to worry about:

That is pretty constant every single year. That is usually how it is. Offensive line is one of those positions where you grow every single year. You get these freshman receivers and running backs, that are just natural. That is just athletic ability, but offensive line, you’ve got to work. Everything is unnatural. You know it takes time. All those guys, they’re going to be just fine.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Vance Leavy asked Houston about the first year offensive linemen and if anybody stood out to him:

I’ve been really pleased with Sage and Pat both. They are both going to be talented guys, and they are pretty versatile. You are going to be able to count on those guys to be able to play every single position. Sage has been snapping too. They are going to be some pretty special guys when they get older.

[su_spacer size=”40″] Houston made a point when answering the media’s questions about the quarterbacks and the quarterback competition that it doesn’t matter to him who gets the job. As offensive linemen, his job is to protect whoever is back there taking snaps for the “G.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] Another point he emphasized, and I want to point out, is that the positions on the offensive line are a different animal than the skill positions on offense. It takes time to learn and develop the skills necessary to be an effective offensive linemen. That it is quite normal for there to be a disparity between true freshmen and sophomore offensive linemen versus juniors and seniors.
[su_spacer size=”40″] To me, Houston also had the quote of the day when he stated “27 left and 27 right sounds pretty good to me.” While it is very important for Georgia to find a starting QB to run the offense for the season and for whomever that is to play well, one thing this Georgia o-line loves to do is to block for running backs like Nick Chubb. Handing the ball off to number 27 doesn’t sound bad to me either Kolton.
