Georgia is coming off of a season high after an impressive hard-fought win against Tennessee this past Sunday. The Lady Bulldogs started off the season ranked No. 14 but fell out of the Top 25 after losses to UCLA, Georgia Tech and Maryland in November.
A win like Tennessee is important for this program especially after a devastating loss on the road to No.7 Mississippi State and looking forward to Georgia’s fifth SEC game on the schedule, Missouri in Columbia at 7:00pm.
“I think it gives us a lot of confidence. Obviously in our preseason we weren’t where we are now, she said. “I think now just knowing that we are playing with these teams and we are beating these teams will give us a load of confidence when we go into each game.”
Practice and film started yesterday for the Lady Bulldogs and Staiti said that the team should be focusing on Missouri’s offensive sets and their own defense. She also said that one of the keys to winning this game will be rebounds.
“Obviously rebounding because we have a height advantage. Just knowing every time, a shot goes up we need to the boards,” she said. “Coach Joni (Taylor) is probably going to tell us that with everything we do in practice. Once we have that in our head I am sure it will stick and we will execute that in the game.”
Redshirt junior Taja Cole, who leads the SEC in assists with 112 this season, recalled last season’s game against Missouri.
“I remember them being ranked No. 11 in the country. I remember it being a very, very intense game and fun game like Sunday’s game was against Tennessee,” Cole said. “I just remember us running onto the court jumping up and down when we beat the No. 11 ranked team in the country.”
The Lady Bulldogs are 3-1 in the SEC, 1-4 away from home and 12-5 total.
