Georgia hosted Georgia Tech on Sunday where the Lady Dogs outlasted the Yellow Jackets 60-53. Despite a sloppy first half, the Bulldogs pushed through and with a second-half surge ended the day with a ‘W’. The win improves the Lady Dogs to 9-1 on the season and 16-0 all-time against Tech in Athens.

The Lady Dogs outscored Tech 20-7 in the third quarter which sealed the win. Senior forward Mackenzie Engram led Georgia throughout the game and posted her second double-double of the season. The double-double was her seventh in her career. She scored 14 points and brought down 10 rebounds, as well as tacking on four assists, a career-high. Georgia had two other players score in double digits on Sunday too. Caliya Robinson scored 12 points and Gabby Connally put up 10 points. Robinson collected two blocks and five rebounds. The game marked her seventh game this season with at least two blocks.

Georgia Tech scored in the first six seconds of the game, but the Lady Dogs quickly answered with a Robinson fadeaway. Georgia took a 7-5 lead with a 3-pointer by freshman Que Morrison. However, Tech regained the lead and held it until the final minute of the first quarter. The Lady Dogs ended the first period with a lead of 18-15.

Engram spearheaded the Lady Dogs in the second quarter scoring six of the teams eight second-quarter points. She finished with 10 points and six rebounds in the first half. Morrison capped off the first half with two free throws to make it 29-26 Tech lead at the half. In the first half, the two teams traded leads 10 times and tied four times.

However, the Lady Dogs held steady to start the third quarter until a Haley Clark layup at 8:14 which sparked a 22-8run by Georgia that stretched into the fourth quarter. In that time period, Georgia had seven different players score. Robinson led by six points on the way to her seventh double-digit scoring total of the season.

Georgia held Tech scoreless for the final 5:50 of the third quarter. However, that didn’t last long as the Yellow Jackets closed the lead to seven just outside of five minutes left in the game. Connally nailed a three-pointer as the shot clock expired to extend the lead to double digits. Georgia Tech got on an 8-2 run which brought them within four points with 31 seconds left, but Morrison and Connally put the game away at the free throw line.

The Lady Dogs host Howard on Tuesday, December 19 at Stegman Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 11 A.M. and will be streamed on the SEC Network Plus.
