[break] Georgia senior Lauren Herring was tabbed SEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second week in a row, the league office announced on Wednesday. This marks the second time this season and the fourth time in her career that the No. 19 ranked senior has been honored with the award.

 

Dating back to the home opener against Samford, the Greenville, N.C., native has won four straight singles matches and three straight doubles matches playing on the number one courts for Georgia. All but two of her past seven wins have come against nationally ranked opponents.

 

This past week, Herring went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles against players from No. 13 Clemson and No. 10 Virginia. Her impressive performances were highlighted by a 7-5, 6-4 straight set win against the nation’s top-ranked singles player in Virginia’s Julia Elbaba. She also defeated Clemson’s No. 85 ranked Remy Koelzer in singles and teamed with freshman teammate Ellen Perez to down Virginia’s No. 22 ranked doubles team of Elbaba and Stephanie Nauta, 6-3.

 

Herring nearly added another top-3 scalp to her weekly collection as her and Perez were leading Clemson’s No. 2 ranked doubles team of Gumulya and Rompies 5-3 when the match was called off due to Georgia clinching the doubles point on another court.

 

The senior is 4-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles this dual season on the number one courts. She and the rest of her Bulldog teammates will face No. 15 Michigan at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
