Peach State defensive lineman Tramel Walthour has been committed to the Bulldogs Sept. 18, 2017, and he made it official, signing his Letter of Intent with the University of Georgia just before 11:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 7th, 2018.

Tramel is a 6 foot 3.5 and 280 lbs prospect out of Hinesville, GA and plays at defensive tackle for Liberty County, current Bulldawg defensive back and 2017 signee Richard LeCounte III’s high school Alma mater. Walthour has over 15 FBS scholarship offers and chose Georgia over programs like Arkansas, Auburn, Ohio State, and Tennessee.
Walthour is rated a three-star prospect by 247, Rivals, and Scout. He is considered the No. 37 DT by Rivals, the No. 50 DT for 2018 by 247Sports, and the No. 54 DT by ESPN,
And while there may be more highly rated prospects on the pay sites, there is a reason the Georgia coaching staff zeroed in on Walthour. When you watch him play, one thing you notice very quickly is that he has a strong upper body with quick hands that enable him to push back or shed blockers to make the play. The other quality that jumps out about Walthour on tape is his motor. He seems to always be around the ball, making plays all over the field. The big man plays through the whistle and doesn’t take plays off.
As a junior in 2016, that motor helped Tramel make over 65 stops for the Panthers in 13 games, 14 of those were tackles for a loss, and he also added 3 quarterback sacks for good measure along with a couple of forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Walthour also plays basketball for Liberty County High School as well as throws the discus and shot put on the track and field team.
If I had to compare Tramel to a current Georgia d-linemen it would be either DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle or Tyler Clark. He has a similar frame and should be able to add muscle and weight to play in the 300 lbs range. Like Hawkins-Muckle and Clark, he is explosive coming off the ball. Give him a year or two under D-line coach Tray Scott, and Walthour should be in the rotation on Saturdays.
Here are some highlights of Tramel from Rivals Camp as well as his 2016 junior season at Liberty County.
