University of Georgia women’s basketball team junior forward Mackenzie Engram has been named to the 2017 SEC Community Service Team.

Engram, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., who prepped at Hillgrove High School, is one of 14 honorees on this year’s SEC Community Service Team. This marks the 19th year the SEC has highlighted a Community Service Team, which seeks to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the classroom.

“Mackenzie is such a special person, which can be seen in the impact she has made in and around the Athens area,” head coach Joni Taylor said. “Being involved in the community is an essential part of playing basketball at the University of Georgia, and Mackenzie is our ambassador when it comes to many of our service initiatives. I am so proud for her and the work she has been able to do over the last three years. She is an absolute pleasure to coach, and I can’t say enough about the work she has done on behalf of our program.”

Engram serves as the Lady Bulldogs’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and sits on the social subcommittee for SAAC, where she helps plan events like the Winter Formal for UGA student-athletes, while raising money for UGA Miracle and other organizations.

Her passion for community service reaches far and wide. Engram volunteers at the Special Olympics, helps with the Hunger Bowl and assists with the ‘End it Movement’ and ‘It’s on US’ campaigns, which bring light to the issues of human trafficking and sexual assault. Earlier this year, she was nominated for the 2017 AllState Good Works Team.

Engram and the Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday evening at 7 p.m. ET in the team’s home finale against Alabama.
