J.J. Frazier, a senior guard for the Georgia men’s basketball team, has been named the SEC Player of the Week after averaging 28.5 points per game in the Bulldogs’ victories over Alabama and LSU this past week. Frazier played a critical role in both of those wins for Georgia, which came in a span of just 49 hours.
 
 
Last Thursday at Alabama, Frazier scored 28 points, nearly half of the Bulldogs’ total offensive output in the 60-55 victory. After the Crimson Tide cut Georgia’s 12-point halftime lead to 48-47 with 9:06 left, Frazier scored nine of the Bulldogs’ last 12 points to secure the victory.
 
 
Frazier then topped that performance with a 29-point, 8-assist outing against LSU on Saturday. Frazier connected on nine field goals and distributed a season-high eight assists, giving him a direct hand in 17 of the Bulldogs’ 27 buckets in the win. He scored 18 second-half points, including the game-winning free throws with 1.6 seconds left.
 
 
Perhaps most impressively, Frazier scored 12 points on 11 trips to the free throw line against the Tigers. He connected on 10 attempts and darted in to tip in his one miss of the evening to score two more points.
 
 
Frazier is ranked among the SEC’s top-10 leaders in scoring (No. 4 at 18.1 ppg), playing time (No. 1 at 34.5 mpg), steals (No. 3 at 2.0 spg), assists (No. 5 at 4.3 apg), assist-to-turnover ratio (No. 6 at 1.8 ratio) and free throw percentage (No. 7 at .859).
 
 
This marks the third time Frazier has been named SEC Player of the Week during his career. He also was selected on Jan. 26, 2015 and on Dec. 21, 2016.
