Georgia junior Megan Kingsley was chosen as the National Female Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com on Wednesday.

CollegeSwimming.com also recognized seniors Chantal Van Landeghem and Chase Kalisz as its Southeastern Conference Female and Male Swimmer of the Week, respectively.

Named the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday, Kingsley led the way as the Lady Bulldogs opened the season with a win at North Carolina on Friday. She took first place in the 100 butterfly (53.07), the 200 butterfly (1:54.90) and the 200 individual medley (1:59.11). All three of her individual times currently rank first nationally. Kingsley also helped the 200 medley relay touch first in 1:40.13.

“She swam lights out,” Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said of Kingsley. “She’s been extremely dialed in on her training and has set her goals high this year.”

Against North Carolina, Van Landeghem won the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.96 and anchored the 200 medley relay that touched first in 1:40.13. She also was second in the 50 freestyle (22.75) and on the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.10). Her 50 freestyle time ranks third in the nation.

Behind Kingsley and Van Landeghem, Georgia won its season opener for the 15th straight season and improved to 23-0 all-time against North Carolina under Coach Jack Bauerle.

Kalisz helped the Bulldogs dispatch the Tar Heels as he won the 200 freestyle (1:36.60) and the 200 breaststroke (1:56.08). Kalisz ranks first nationally in the 200 breaststroke and third in the 200 freestyle. Kalisz also was part of the runner-up 400 freestyle relay (3:04.43).

Said Bauerle, “It goes without saying that we are thrilled to have those two back in Athens.”

Georgia will return to action Oct. 28 at Gabrielsen Natatorium when it entertains Florida at 11 a.m.
