Georgia returns to action on Tuesday at LSU, where the Bulldogs and Tigers will square off on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The contest begins a road-heavy portion of the Bulldogs’ slate, which features five of the next seven outings away from Athens.
Georgia arrives in Baton Rouge at 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the SEC.
Yante Maten, who last Thursday was named to the 25-player Midseason Watch List for the Wooden Award, leads the SEC in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 19.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
Maten has been a picture of consistency for the Bulldogs since the beginning of his sophomore year. Over the 79 games during that span, Maten has produced 71 double-digit scoring performances, with 30 20-point and five 30-point outings and 22 double-doubles.
Turtle Jackson provides a second a double-figure scoring average at 10.1 ppg. Jackson entered the year with two double-digit outputs in 66 games. He has 10 double-figure performances in 16 outings this season.
Georgia is looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Bulldogs fell at Missouri last Wednesday before suffering their first home loss of the campaign on Saturday against South Carolina.
LSU also is 11-5 on the season but 2-2 in league action.
Tremont Waters paces a quartet of double-digit scorers for the Tigers at 16.9 ppg. He also leads the league in assists (6.1 apg) and steals (2.3 spg).
Series History: UGA vs. LSU
LSU sports a 64-45 edge in the all-time series with Georgia, including a 35-14 advantage in Baton Rouge.
Last season in Athens, J.J. Frazier hit two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to lead Bulldogs over LSU, 82-80.
The Bulldogs opened up a 33-16 lead with just over eight minutes left in the first half, but LSU chipped that margin down seven at the intermission.
The Tigers eventually tied the game at 69-69 with 6:21 remaining, but Georgia surged back to a 77-71 lead moments later.
A 9-0 LSU run gave the Tigers an 80-77 edge with 52 seconds left before Frazier took charge. He then took the ball the length of the court, drove the lane and passed the ball to Derek Ogbeide, who laid it in and make the score 80-79. LSU grabbed two offensive rebounds on the next possession, but could not finish at the basket.
Frazier collected an inbounds pass with 6.7 seconds left and was fouled on a drive. His free throws gave Georgia the lead with just under two seconds remaining.
In UGA’s last trip to Baton Rouge two seasons ago, Georgia’s last-minute comeback came up short in an 89-85 loss.
The Tigers led much of the first half with their largest margin at 18-9 before Georgia chipped away and eventually trailed 33-30 at the break.
Georgia trailed by 11 with 50 seconds remaining when things heated up. Frazier started the rally with a layup and – after an LSU free throw – hit a 3-pointer. Charles Mann stole the ensuing inbounds pass and scored to cut the margin to 83-78.
Another LSU free throw was followed by a pair of free throws by Mann to make it a four-point game. The Tigers missed two free throws with 28 seconds left before another Frazier 3-pointer cut the gap to 84-83 with 23 ticks remaining.
LSU converted two free throws, but Frazier matched those points with a layup at the 16-second mark. Keith Hornsby then made one of two free throws, giving Georgia the ball down two with 13 seconds remaining.
E’Torrion Wilridge’s potential game-tying jumper rimmed out with four seconds left.
