Georgia men’s basketball suffered an 89-74 loss in Alabama Wednesday night at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Al. This is the Bulldogs seventh loss in a row and eighth overall in SEC games.
Although Georgia started off the game with momentum going on a 5-0 and then a 7-0 run, the Crimson Tide proved to be too much for the team in the end. The Bulldogs lost the lead for good with less than a minute left in the first half. Alabama lead for the remaining almost 23 minutes of the game.
Derek Ogbeide led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points and the Crimson Tide’s star scorer Tevin Mack led his team with 25. Georgia had 24 rebounds, six more than Alabama, in the second half yet their opponent scored 12 more points in that 20 minutes. Their 15 offensive rebounds throughout the game did allow for 21 second-chance points.
Looking at scoring percentages can tell one a lot about this game. Alabama had almost double Georgia’s field goal percentage (34.2) and more than double their three-point percentage (23.5). Georgia took more than 40 more shots than they made.
Fouls remain a problem for this team. Georgia had 20 fouls total and 14 of those came in the second half whereas Alabama had 14 total. The Crimson Tide made 16 free throws which gave them a boost to win the game. Georgia had three fouls in the last minute of the game alone allowing Alabama to seal the deal with five free throws.
