LAHAINA, Hawaii — The Georgia men’s golf team stands eighth after one round of the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic.
On Friday on the par-71, 6,700-yard layout at the Ka’anapali Golf Course, the Bulldogs posted a score of 8-under 276. California has the team lead at 18-under 266, followed by LSU and South Carolina both at 16-under 268.
Sophomore Trevor Phillips paced the Bulldogs on Friday as he fired a 4-under 67 to land at 12th individually. Phillips, who began on No. 12 in the shotgun start, was able to finish strong with an eagle, four birdies and a bogey on Nos. 3-9 down the stretch. Wyoming’s Drew McCullough set the pace in the first round with an 8-under 63.
Sophomore Spencer Ralston added a 3-under 68, recording four of his five birdies on the front nine, to stand 20th. He was followed by freshman Davis Thompson at 2-under 69 and freshman John Hilliard Catanzaro at 1-over 72. Sophomore Will Chandler had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 4-over 75.
Playing as an individual, junior Matthew Beringer fired a 1-under 70.
The Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic will continue on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
