Sepp Straka fired a 6-under-par 65 in the second round as the Georgia men’s golf team jumped into first place at the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate.

The Bulldogs finished Monday’s round at Querencia Golf Club with a 16-under 268, and now hold an eight shot lead over second-place South Florida. The score in relation to par represents Georgia’s best round since it shot 18-under in the second round of the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic, and ties for the fifth-best round in school history.

“We just felt good going in today,” said Straka, “and we’ve all been playing some good golf. We were excited to play a good round.”

Straka, who propelled himself to third place individually, finished three strokes shy of the school record in relation to par. He enters the final round just one stroke back of Taylor Moore of Arkansas and South Florida’s Aksel Olsen.

The Bulldogs also got a 4-under 67 from Zach Healy, as well as a pair of 3-under 68s from Lee McCoy and Greyson Sigg. Jaime Lopez Rivarola had Georgia’s non-counting score of 6-over 77. McCoy is tied for fourth place, with Sigg and Healy tied for sixth.

The Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate will conclude with Tuesday’s round, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.
