After the first round of the NCAA College Grove Regional, the UGA men’s golf team stands in seventh place.

 
On Monday at The Grove Club, the Bulldogs fired a 6-over 294. The lone way to advance to the NCAA Championships May 26-31 in Sugar Grove, Ill., is to finish fifth or higher in the 54-hole Regional. Vanderbilt opened with an 8-under 280, followed by UCF at 3-under 285, Troy at 2-under 286, Kennesaw State at 1-under 287 and Clemson at even-par 288.
 
 
“It’s not the start we had hoped for, but we’re only six shots out of fifth and we know what we need to do,” Georgia coach Chris Haack said. “We’ve got the two most important rounds of our season still in front of us. We’ll go back to work Tuesday morning and see what happens. I’m confident our guys will come out firing on Tuesday.”
 
 
Senior Greyson Sigg paced the Bulldogs on Monday as he shot a 3-under 69. Sigg is in sixth, three off the pace set by Vanderbilt’s Patrick Martin and Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer. Sigg made birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 5, 7 and 9 as the Bulldogs closed on the front nine.
 
 
Freshman Spencer Ralston signed for an even-par 72 to stand 17th, followed by senior Jaime Lopez Rivarola at 3-over 75 and sophomore Tye Waller at 6-over 78. Freshman Trevor Phillips had Georgia’s non-counting score of 8-over 80.
