Day two of the MLK Invitational at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA featured three doubles and four singles wins from the fourth-ranked Georgia men’s tennis team on Sunday morning.
Capitalizing on eight Bulldog victories from day one in Atlanta, Georgia added seven more wins against players from the University of Illinois at the Ken Byers Complex on the Georgia Tech campus.
“I think the team has already made progress,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “With one match under their belt, they look more comfortable out there in both singles and doubles. I’m very pleased with our play today.”
The Bulldogs opened Sunday morning sweeping the doubles field. The seventh-ranked duo of junior Jan Zielinksi and sophomore Robert Loeb notched a 6-4 victory, while senior Wayne Montgomery and junior Walker Duncan posted their own 6-0 win. Senior Paul Oosterbaan and redshirt freshman Alex Diaz teamed up for the first time to overtake Illinois’ Alex Brown and Caleb Chakravarthi 6-4.
In singles, Diaz picked up his first career victory over Illinois’ Aiden Jiang in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. No. 12 Montgomery and No. 25 Reinberg followed in similar fashion, requiring only two sets apiece. Oosterbaan also posted another win on the weekend, coming back from first-set loss to take the match in three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
