The Georgia men’s tennis team will be playing for an outright SEC Title when they face No. 10 Texas A&M at 2:00 p.m. ET this afternoon in College Station, TX.

 
 
The regular season finale pits the top two teams in the league against each as No. 11 Georgia (15-6 overall) enters with a perfect 11-0 conference mark, while Texas A&M (17-5 overall) comes in with a 10-1 SEC record. The Bulldogs have already clinched a share of the title — the program’s 40th overall (regular season and tournament combined) and 31st regular season crown — but can claim the championship outright with a win against the Aggies.
 
 
Georgia finished the regular season home slate with a perfect 6-0 mark against conference teams at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs have won 31 consecutive home conference matches and 26-straight SEC regular season contests overall.
 
 
GEORGIA NOTES
 
 
Nathan Ponwith, winner of the last three SEC Freshman of the Week honors and five overall, is the first ever freshman to win the award five times. The young Bulldogs have won the honor seven of 12 times overall this season.
 
 
Walker Duncan holds a record of 19-2 between singles and doubles in conference play and has not lost a match of either kind since March 12 (doubles loss vs. Arkansas). He has won nine consecutive singles matches.
 
 
Georgia has already clinched at least a share of the 2017 SEC title, a feat the Bulldogs have accomplished for the fifth-straight season. The Bulldogs have won five-straight SEC crowns only one time prior in school history, taking five in row from 1971-75 (head coach Manuel Diaz lettered from 1972-75).
 
 
This is Georgia’s 40th SEC Championship (31st regular season title, 9 tournament titles) and 27th in 29 seasons under Diaz.
 
 
Jan Zielinski (30 doubles wins) is one win away from cracking the top-20 for most doubles wins in school history for a single season. Three people are currently tied for 19th with 31.

Following the match against No. 10 Texas A&M, Georgia will begin preparations for postseason play. The Bulldogs will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the SEC Tournament on April 26-30, and will then get ready for the NCAA first and second rounds on May 12-13. The University of Georgia will then host the 2017 NCAA National Championships from May 18-29.
