“I’m very proud of how Wayne and Austin competed,” said associate head coach Bo Hodge. “They’ll learn from this and it will make them better in the long run. I’m especially proud of Austin in how he kept his composure. He lost the first set both yesterday and today and fought back to win the second. It’s one of the main things that I wanted to accomplish when I took the job at Georgia, to help Austin realize that tennis is all about adjustments and adversity. And when you embrace that you succeed. He has done that the past two days, but just came up a little short today. I’m equally proud of Wayne, he left everything out on the court and will become a better player because of it.

In the doubles consolation draw, top-ranked Smith and Ben Wagland won by default against TCU’s Cameron Norrie and Guillermo Nunez. They will take on Baylor’s Julian Lenz and Max Tchoutakian in the consolation final on Sunday.

Said Hodge: “Our guys will look to rebound tomorrow and put their best foot forward and learn from their mistakes that they made yesterday.”
