A perfect record in singles consolation and another win in the main draw by Emil Reinberg highlighted Thursday action for the Georgia men’s tennis team at the 2017 Oracle / ITA National Fall Championships.
Reinberg came out of the gate slow but picked it up in the final two sets. His opponent, Stefan Milicevic from Minnesota, took the first set 6-4, before Reinberg bounced back to win 7-6 (0) in the second and 6-0 in the third. The Bulldog junior will now play Florida State’s Guy Iradukunda in the Round of 16 on Friday.
The remaining Georgia players had impressive bounce back days on the singles courts. The Bulldogs finished with a perfect 3-0 mark in consolation. Walker Duncan, Wayne Montgomery, and Jan Zielinski will each play in Friday’s consolation Round of 16.
“So proud of Emil for how he bounced back after that first set,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “He will have another tough match tomorrow, but that is to be expected when you keep advancing in an event like this. I was also pleased to see our other guys fight back. Going 4-0 in singles is always great, and I thought we competed at a much higher level today.”
Georgia’s doubles duo of Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski will play later Thursday for a chance to advance to the quarterfinals. The tandem of Duncan and Montgomery will also play in the consolation bracket. Check back to GeorgiaDogs.com for their results.
