Four players from the University of Georgia men’s tennis team will travel to the site of the International Tennis Hall of Fame this weekend to participate in the 2017 Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational.
Robert Loeb, Andy Martinez, Alex Phillips and Jan Zielinski will represent the Bulldogs at the prestigious event, which runs Friday through Sunday. Georgia is one eight schools to participate this weekend. The Bulldogs join TCU, Illinois and Columbia, while the women’s side features Florida, North Carolina, LSU and Princeton.
“This is a phenomenal opportunity for our guys to play on grass courts and visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “We are so fortunate to be invited to such an elite tournament. It will be an educational experience for everyone and something they will remember for a long time. We will also get the chance to go against players from three really strong teams, so we are excited to get started.”
The three-day tournament is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s only grass-court event of the year and is played on the historic courts at Newport. Play begins at 10 a.m. ET and will run through 6 p.m. ET each day. Draws and pairings will be announced Thursday evening.
Georgia enters the weekend following its first tournament of the fall. Loeb and Zielinski took home the main draw doubles title to highlight the Bulldogs’ showing at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens.
