The Bulldogs are now 9-2 overall and are off to a 2-0 start in conference action. UGA won its SEC opener 4-1 at Florida on Thursday night.

“We played a tough Auburn team very well today,” said head coach Manuel Diaz. “It was a great effort by our guys. We played much better in doubles, and our players showed some maturity in the way they handled the slow courts here and an Auburn team that really competed very well. We beat a good team today, so I’m proud of our guys.

“It’s not east to adjust to different courts and playing on the road, but I thought our team handled it well today. We’re excited to put this weekend in the books and we’re looking forward to getting back home and preparing for two outstanding teams in Texas A&M and LSU.”

Georgia took the doubles point for the sixth consecutive match to go ahead 1-0. Eric Diaz and Nathan Pasha defeated Lukas Ollert and Joseph Van Dooren, 6-3, then Wayne Montgomery and Paul Oosterbaan clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Maxime Hinnisdaels and Dante Saleh at No. 3.

In singles, the Bulldogs rested Ben Wagland, so Oosterbaan moved to No. 5 and Peter Bertran played No. 6. Bertran was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Oliver Plaskett, then another freshman, 17th-ranked Wayne Montgomery beat No. 37 Ollert 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 to give Georgia a 3-0 lead.

Junior Nick Wood then clinched his team-leading third match of the season – and first at No. 4 – with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dante Saleh. Matches at Nos. 2, 3 and 5 were suspended when the Bulldogs clinched the win, and Georgia won the first set at Nos. 2 and 5.

Georgia has now won 23 of its last 24 regular season SEC matches, the only blemish coming at Texas A&M last year. The Bulldogs’ next match will be against the ninth-ranked Aggies Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. LSU will visit Athens for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, March 8. Admission is free.
