The Georgia men’s tennis team concludes the month of January ranked fourth in both the ITA/Oracle Division I National Team Rankings and the USTA College Top-25 Poll, it was announced on Wednesday.
In the ITA/Oracle Rankings, Georgia remains at the No. 4 spot following two wins in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, securing a berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the 10th-straight year. After sweeping Iowa on Sunday, the Bulldogs posted a 4-1 victory against Memphis in the championship match on Sunday.
In the second annual edition of the USTA College Top-25 Poll, Georgia also claimed the fourth-spot. As the highest-ranked Southeastern Conference team, Georgia follows Ohio State, North Carolina and Wake Forest.
Georgia features a total of five ranked singles players in the ITA/Oracle lineup, the most of any Southeastern Conference team. The Bulldogs are one of only four teams that include five ranked players, including North Carolina, Wake Forest and Ohio State. Senior Wayne Montgomery paces the team at No. 12 in the first singles spot, with junior Emil Reinberg at No. 25 on the second court. Juniors Jan Zielinski and Walker Duncan follow at No. 30 and No. 33, respectively, while 2017 SEC Freshman of the Year Nathan Ponwith rounds out the Georgia rankings at No. 66.
The Bulldogs also boast the seventh-ranked doubles duo of Zielinski and sophomore Robert Loeb, who were the only SEC doubles pair to register a 2-0 weekend.
Before heading to Seattle, Washington for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship from Feb. 16-19, Georgia travels to Lake Nona, Florida to face Florida Atlantic on Feb. 8 and Georgia Tech on Feb. 10.
