Six University of Georgia men’s tennis players — Walker Duncan, Wayne Montgomery, Robert Loeb, Alex Phillips, Emil Reinberg and Jan Zielinski — will make the short trip to Atlanta this weekend to play in the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Region Championships.

The event will take place at the Byers Tennis Complex and will run from Friday through Tuesday on the Georgia Tech campus. Student-athletes from 16 schools will compete in both singles and doubles with the champions from each main draw tournament receiving automatic bids to the 2017 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held on Nov. 1-5 in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Bulldogs are paced this fall by Duncan’s 9-4 overall record, while Montgomery sits at 8-3 during the fall campaign. Those two, along with the rest of the Bulldogs, will be in action on Saturday with the No. 1 overall seed Montgomery taking on Jose Garcia from Florida State. Duncan will face UCF’ Enrique Paya in the first round of the main draw.

In other main draw singles action, Reinberg, the No. 2 seed, will take on Mercer’s Oliver Suart, while Zielinski, seeded No. 9-16, will battle Mercer’s Sam Philip. Phillips is set to test No. 3 seed Guy Iradukunda from Florida State and Loeb will face a qualifier from the qualifying round.

Georgia’s three doubles teams — Loeb/Zielinski, Duncan/Montgomery and Reinberg/Phillips — will each receive a first-round bye.
