[su_spacer size=”40″] “I’m proud of Paul and his play in singles today,” said head coach Manuel Diaz. “He had a great first set and his opponent really fought hard and won the second set, but Paul did a great job of keeping his composure, and he shifted gears and played a great third set. He showed a lot of maturity.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] In other singles action, freshman Emil Reinberg won a consolation match against Boris Arias of LSU 6-1, 6-1, while Walker Duncan was edged by Oklahoma’s Spencer Papa 6-4, 5-7, 7-6, and Nick Wood fell to LSU’s Simon Freund 6-4, 7-5.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “Emil was very impressive in his win today, and Walker had a close match against Spencer Papa,” Diaz said. “I’m really proud of our freshmen. They are making tremendous progress.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] In doubles, Reinberg and Wood won their opening round match against Oklahoma’s Alex Ghilea and Papa 6-7(3), 6-2, 10-8, then fell in the quarterfinals to Ole Miss’ No. 1 team of Lindmark and Filip Kraljevic, 7-6, 6-4. Duncan and Oosterbaan lost in the first round to UL-Lafayette’s Coleman Wahlborg and Edgar Lopez, 6-2, 6-2.
[su_spacer size=”40″] “I thought that overall we played well in doubles,” Diaz said. “Nick and Emil had a terrific first match, defeating a high-quality doubles team. Overall it was a good day today, and hopefully we can continue to make progress tomorrow.”
