UGA men’s tennis Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski sit atop the latest Oracle/ITA Doubles Rankings that were released on Thursday.
The latest news marks a busy week for the Georgia freshman/sophomore duo. After helping the team win the 2017 Southeastern Conference Tournament with two wins against top-5 doubles teams, Loeb and Zielinski earned All-America honors and the top overall seed in this year’s NCAA doubles championship.
Joining Loeb and Zielinski in the latest rankings are NCAA singles participants and All-SEC selections Wayne Montgomery, Nathan Ponwith and Emil Reinberg. Montgomery is ranked No. 33, Ponwith is No. 56 and Reinberg is at No. 59. Ponwith and Reinberg are also ranked 67th in doubles.
Georgia is ranked 12th in the team rankings and enters the 2017 NCAA Championships as the highest-rated SEC team after winning a share of the regular season title in addition to the conference’s tournament crown. The Bulldogs have played six of the current top-10 teams, with Wake Forest, Virginia, Ohio State, USC and UCLA rounding out the top-5.
The Bulldogs are set to host Florida A&M, South Florida and Duke in this year’s first and second round of the NCAA Championships, which will take place from May 12-13 in Athens. The University of Georgia will host the Round of 16 and beyond from May 18-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
