Three Georgia men’s tennis players advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 ITA Southeast Regional Championships, winning two matches each Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
 
 
Of the Bulldogs’ six singles wins on the day, four came in straight-sets as Wayne Montgomery, Emil Reinberg, and Walker Duncan are among the eight players left standing in the main draw of singles action.
 
 
“It was a very good day overall,” head coach Manny Diaz said. “We had good matches all around. Our guys competed well and we are very pleased with the results.”
 
 
Junior Wayne Montgomery defeated Simon Pritchard of Kennesaw State by a score of 6-2, 6-2 before again advancing in straight-sets against 11th-seeded Aziz Dougaz of Florida State, 6-3, 7-5. Emil Reinberg, who entered the tournament with a fall record of 12-2, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents, defeated Fermin Calvo Barcelo of Kennesaw State, 7-5, 6-1, and Florida’s McClain Kessler, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
 
 
Walker Duncan, despite dropping the opening set in his first match of the day, was able to advance to the round of 16 by defeating Lasse Muscheites of North Florida, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. In his second match, Duncan handled Florida State’s Terrance Whitehurst, 6-4, 6-3.
 
 
Montgomery (No. 1), Duncan (No. 8) and Reinberg (No. 10) are all among the top ten seeds at the tournament and will play in Sunday’s quarterfinals. Montgomery will face Carlos Benito of Georgia Tech and Duncan will take on Florida’s Elliott Orkin, who is the tournament’s second seed. Reinberg takes his 15-2 fall record up against South Florida’s Justin Roberts.
 
 
The semifinals of the singles main draw will also be played on Sunday and the final round will be played Monday.
 
 
Jan Zielinski and Alex Phillips, who both won in the round of 64 on Friday, each fell in the round of 32 Saturday. Zielinski fell 7-6 (2), 6-4 to Jefta Kecic of North Florida. Phillips was able to win the first set but eventually lost to Georgia Tech’s Benito, the No. 5 seed in the tournament, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3.
 
 
In doubles action, the duo of Montgomery and Reinberg won 8-4 in the round of 16, defeating the 14th-seeded pairing of Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou from Georgia State. The pair advances to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw and will face Michael Kay and Andrew Li of Georgia Tech. Zielinski and Duncan, who came back from a two-break deficit to force a tiebreaker, were defeated by Max Andrews and Piotr Lomacki of Miami in a tight match that ended 8-7 (4).
