Three members of the Georgia men’s tennis team will begin play in the ITA/Oracle Masters Friday at the Malibu Club in Malibu, Calif.

The Oracle/ITA Masters is the first national collegiate championship of the 2015-16 season, and singles champions will earn automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship. Wayne Montgomery and Austin Smith will compete in the 16-player singles draw, while Smith and Ben Wagland will represent the Bulldogs in the eight-team doubles field.

Montgomery will open play in the three-day tournament against No. 1-ranked and top-seed Alvarez of Oklahoma. Smith will take on North Carolina’s 14th-ranked Schneider. Both matches are scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. ET. In doubles, Smith and Wagland will face Pepperdine’s Hadlich and Sidney in the first round at 5 p.m.

SOUTHERN INTERCOLLEGIATE SWEEP: Georgia swept the Division I titles at the 48th annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Monday. Montgomery defended his singles title, becoming the fifth player in Georgia history to win back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate crowns. The others include John Isner, Mikael Pernfors, John Roddick and current head coach Manuel Diaz. Smith and Wagland won doubles.

RANKINGS: The Oracle/ITA preseason rankings were released on Tuesday, and Georgia had four players in the top-125 in the nation. Montgomery is ranked 16th, Smith is 17th, Nick Wood is No. 104 and Wagland is No. 111. Smith and Wagland are ranked No. 1 in the country in doubles. Georgia joins Oklahoma, Virginia and TCU as the only schools with two singles players in the top-20.
