Jan Zielinski, a member of the Poland national team, has signed a financial aid agreement and plans to enroll at the University of Georgia and join the men’s tennis team in January, head coach Manuel Diaz announced Tuesday.

Zielinski has claimed numerous singles and doubles titles at junior ITF events, and he earned a gold medal while representing Poland at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. He also played in the U.S. Open, French Open and Wimbledon junior tournaments.

A native of Warsaw, Poland, Zielinski was the U18 national champion in Poland in 2014 and the U14 national champion in 2010. He won the 2015 Polish Open doubles.

“Jan is going to be an outstanding addition to our squad,” Diaz said. “He’s had a tremendous amount of success and he has an impressive record, especially in doubles where he’s won numerous futures events. He had a great visit earlier this fall and he felt right at home and we felt very comfortable with him.”

Zielinski was ranked as high as No. 24 in ITF juniors in 2014.

Georgia returns to action at the MLK Invitational in Atlanta Jan. 16-18, while the Bulldogs will open the dual match season at the ITA Kickoff against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 23.
