Georgia’s Davis Thompson earned two more accolades on Friday from the Haskins Award and the Southeastern Conference.

The senior from Auburn, Ala., was chosen as one of the 10 members of the final watch list for the Haskins Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate golfer. Thompson was joined on the final watch list by Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech, Jacob Bridgeman of Clemson, Eugenio Chacarra of Oklahoma State, Pierceson Coody of Texas, Alex Fitzpatrick of Wake Forest, Nick Gabrelcik of North Florida, Noah Goodwin of SMU, Ryan Hall of South Carolina, and John Pak of Florida State. 

The three finalists will be announced on June 1 following the voting open to all Division I male players, head and assistant coaches, sports information directors, and select college golf media members. 

Georgia’s Russell Henley won the Haskins Award in 2010.

Thompson additionally has been chosen to the SEC’s Community Service Team. He assisted with the Food2Kids Snack Drive that helped collect 28,000 pounds of healthy snacks for students in the Clarke County School District; served as Hunger Bowl team captain and led an effort to reach a 40 percent increase in canned goods during the pandemic; participated in Special Olympics activities that provided interaction with local school children with special needs; helped First Tee, which provides learning opportunities and a love for the game of golf to youth; and been a part of clinics with boys and girls from the North American Junior Golf Association. Thompson was named to the Community Service Team in 2019 as well.

Thompson previously was tabbed as the SEC’s Golfer of the Year, the seventh honoree in school history. Earlier this week, Thompson picked up his second win of the season and the fourth of his career in the Tallahassee Regional. Thompson’s career-best 14-under 202 helped propel the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish and a berth in next week’s NCAA Championships.

Thompson leads the SEC with a scoring average of 69.48 (with 16 of his 27 rounds in the 60s) and he has six top-6 efforts. He is No. 2 in the PGA Tour University Honor Roll, No. 4 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and No. 5 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking. Thompson played for victorious Team USA in the Walker Cup and the Palmer Cup. He has been selected as a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award.

Thompson and the Bulldogs will compete May 28-June 2 in the NCAAs at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
