Georgia’s Davis Thompson has been chosen as a First-Team All-American, according to an announcement Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Thompson earned First-Team All-America honors for the second straight year. He is the fourth Bulldog (Chip Beck, 1977-78; Chris Kirk, 2006-07; and Lee McCoy 20-15-16) to be recognized on the First Team twice. Thompson also was an Honorable Mention pick in 2019.

A senior from Auburn, Ala., Thompson won twice this season and had six top-10 and nine top-20 finishes in 10 tournaments. He highlighted the All-SEC First Team as the SEC’s Golfer of the Year with a conference-best scoring average of 69.71, including 17 of his 31 rounds in the 60s, and was named to the All-Southeast Region Team. Thompson is the top-rated American and No. 2 overall in the current World Amateur Golf Ranking. He helped Team USA to victories this year in the Walker Cup and the Palmer Cup.

Thompson finished second in the inaugural PGA Tour University rankings and earned Korn Ferry Tour membership to begin his professional career. He will be exempt into all open, full-field events beginning with the BMW Charity Pro-Am June 10-13. Thompson also holds a sponsor exemption for the PGA Tour’s Rocket Mortgage Classic July 1-4.

Thompson was chosen as the male recipient of the Joel Eaves Award as the Georgia student-athlete with the highest GPA entering his senior year academically. He earned a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship as Georgia’s male nominee for the SEC’s H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Thompson was picked for the SEC Community Service Team for the second time in his career.
