Georgia’s Trent Phillips fired a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to move into contention for medalist honors in the LSU Invitational.
The junior from Inman, S.C., jumped from 11th individually to fourth with a two-round total of 2-under 142 on the University Club’s par-72, 7,227-yard layout. Phillips is just two shy of Jackson Suber of Ole Miss, who moved to 4-under 140.
Phillips was the co-medalist at his last event, the Gators Invitational, and he earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors.
As a team, the sixth-ranked Bulldogs slipped to ninth at 21-over 597 following a second-round 15-over 303. Florida holds the team lead at 3-over 579, with Illinois in second at 6-over 582, and Vanderbilt and Arkansas in third at 11-over 587. Georgia is tied with Kentucky.
Senior Davis Thompson and sophomore Connor Creasy each signed for a 4-over 76 on Saturday, while fifth-year Spencer Ralston carded a 10-over 82. Sophomore Nicolas Cassidy had Georgia’s non-counting score of 13-over 85.
Thompson now stands at 6-over 150, followed by Creasy at 8-over 152, Ralston at 11-over 155, and Cassidy at 15-over 159.
Georgia will be paired with Auburn and Ole Miss in the final round. Tee times are set for 10-minute increments between 11:10 and 11:50 a.m.
