The Georgia men’s golf team came in third on Tuesday in the Puerto Rico Classic.
In Tuesday’s final round on Rio Mar River Course’s par-72, 6,902-yard layout, the Bulldogs posted a field-best 8-under 280 to land at 19-under 845. Georgia Tech claimed the top spot at 32-under 832 and Oklahoma finished second at 30-under 834.
Sophomore Trent Phillips paced the Bulldogs on Tuesday as he signed for a 6-under 66, the lowest loop of the day. Phillips’ round included an eagle and six birdies. Junior Davis Thompson and freshman Connor Creasy added 1-under 71s, followed by senior Will Chandler at even-par 72. Senior Spencer Ralston had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 3-over 75.
Phillips placed fourth at 8-under 208, just one shot back of tri-medalists Garett Reband of Oklahoma, Logan Sowell of College of Charleston, and Bartley Forrester of Georgia Tech. Chandler checked in 13th at 4-under 212, followed by Ralston in 24th at 2-under 214, Thompson in 32nd at even-par 216, and Creasy in 47th at 5-over 221.
In the Puerto Rico Individual Classic on the par-71, 6,782-yard Ocean Course, sophomore Will Kahlstorf placed eighth at 11-over 224, including a final-round 6-over 77. Oklahoma’s Logan McAllister took medalist honors at 4-under 209.
The Bulldogs will return to action on March 1-3 in the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate in Las Vegas.
