Georgia’s Trent Phillips has been chosen as the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Player of the Week, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office.
Phillips, a sophomore from Inman, S.C., shared Player of the Week honors with Auburn’s Jovan Rebula. Alex Vogelsong of Auburn was picked as the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Phillips came in fourth, just one shot shy of the tri-medalists, in the Puerto Rico Classic that ended on Tuesday. He was the highest finisher for an SEC squad as Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee also participated. Phillips posted rounds of 72-70-66 for a total of 8-under 208. His final round included an eagle and six birdies, and he had the eagle and 15 birdies over the three-day tournament.
Phillips is ranked second in the SEC and first on the Georgia squad with a scoring average of 69.43. He has six top-10 finishes this season, highlighted by a win in the Ka’anapali Classic last fall. On Tuesday, Phillips was named to the Ben Hogan Award watch list.
The Bulldogs will return to action on March 1-3 in the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate in Las Vegas.
