Junior golfer Trent Phillips will represent the University of Georgia and the United States in the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup, according to an announcement Wednesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Palmer Cup will take place June 11-13 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Palmer Cup uses a Ryder Cup-style format and pits American collegiate golfers against international counterparts. The United States leads the all-time series 12-11-1.

Phillips is currently the No. 29 American and the 44th player overall in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. He has a scoring average of 70.07 in five events during 2020-21. Phillips was the co-medalist at the Gators Invitational and was chosen as the Co-Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week. He has top-7 efforts in each of his last three tournaments.

“I was very excited and honored when I received the call about joining the U.S. team for the Arnold Palmer Cup,” Phillips said. “It’s special to be a part of this. Georgia has a deep history with the Palmer Cup, and I’m proud that my name is getting added to that list. Anytime you can represent your country and your school in any event, it is very exciting.”

Georgia has a strong history with the Arnold Palmer Cup, which launched in 1997. Coach Chris Haack captained the 2002 and 2006 U.S. squads. Nick Cassini, Brian Harman, Russell Henley, Chris Kirk, and Adam Mitchell each played twice, while Erik Compton, Ryan Hybl, Lee McCoy, Michael Morrison, and Davis Thompson all played once.

Phillips will be joined on the United States team by Florida’s Ricky Castillo, Texas’ Pierceson Coody, Arkansas’ Brooke Matthews, Southern Cal’s Allisen Corpuz, and Wake Forest’s Rachel Kuehn.

Additional players for each roster will be named the week of May 3.

Phillips and the Bulldogs will return to action March 15-17 in the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala.
