Georgia’s Trent Phillips won the 68th Sunnehanna Amateur by one stroke on Saturday at Sunnehanna Country Club.
Phillips, a rising senior for the Bulldogs, landed at 9-under 271 with rounds of 69, 68, 66, and 68. He finished one clear of Duke’s Ian Seibers and was two better than Travis Vick of Texas.
Phillips joins Paul Claxton (1991) as the only Bulldogs to win the Sunnehanna Amateur. Other winners of the prestigious event include Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Webb Simpson, Billy Andrade, Scott Verplank, and Ben Crenshaw.
Phillips ended the 2020-21 collegiate season with a win and four top-10 efforts. He was named First-Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches for the third straight season, and he is expected to earn All-America distinction later this month. Phillips wound up with a scoring average of 70.81. Phillips recently helped Team USA regain the Arnold Palmer Cup as he went 2-1-1 in his matches against international competition.
