The 10th-ranked University of Georgia men’s tennis team opens its 2021 season this weekend at the annual MLK Invitational Tournament, a three-day event from Jan. 16-18 at Georgia Tech’s Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs will face-off against No. 20 South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern.
The weekend’s events follow an exciting week for the Bulldogs, during which three players — Trent Bryde, Philip Henning and Tyler Zink — earned top 100 rankings in the ITA preseason singles rankings. In addition, two Georgia doubles teams landed spots in the top 20 ITA doubles rankings; Bryde and Tyler Zink rank No. 8, while Henning and Blake Croyder check in at No. 18.
Georgia begins competition Saturday as the team takes on Georgia Southern at 9 a.m. On Sunday, the Bulldogs once again take the courts at 9 a.m., this time against the No. 20 South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Bulldogs will cap competition Monday against in-state foe Georgia Tech. The match is slated for 2 p.m. Players from all four teams will compete against each other without team score. This weekend’s events are closed to the public.
Next, Georgia returns home for an eight-match home stretch beginning with indoor matches against Mercer (Jan. 22), FSU (Jan. 24) and No. 8 NC State (Jan. 31). The Bulldogs’ indoor matches are closed to the public. Details concerning fan attendance at outdoor matches will be determined on a later date.
