The No. 10-ranked University of Georgia men’s tennis team will kick off the 2021 dual-match season this weekend as it plays hosts for a pair of matches against Mercer and Florida State (FSU). The competition begins tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 22) against the Mercer Bears at 2:30 p.m. at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Bulldogs return Sunday, Jan. 24, to take on the Seminoles at noon. Both indoor matches this weekend are closed to the public.
“Our guys have been eager to get out there and compete on their home courts since the season was cut short last March,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “During the time since, the guys have been working extremely hard, and they couldn’t be more excited to play this weekend.”
Georgia is coming off a notable showing at the MLK Invitational Tournament in Atlanta, Ga., last weekend. Over three days of competition, the Bulldogs tallied a combined 20 wins in singles and doubles.
The Dogs return five of their front six from the 2019-20 season, including three 2020 All-Americans—Trent Bryde, Philip Henning and Tyler Zink.
While the weekend’s matches are closed to the public, fans can still follow along on georgiadogs.com or by following the team on social media —Twitter (@UGAtennis) and Instagram (@ugatennis).
