Blake Croyder, who has helped the Georgia men’s tennis team win three-straight matches this season, has earned the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honor.

The Marietta, Georgia native was inserted into the lineup this week and did not take long to make an impact. He won three singles contests — all without losing a set against players from Alabama, Auburn and Kennesaw State. He also teamed with fellow Bulldog freshman Trent Bryde to go 1-1 in doubles.

“Blake did an outstanding job for us this week, and he is very deserving of this honor,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “Last Friday night, he beat a really good player from Alabama who had lost just one match all season. Then against Auburn and Kennesaw State he continued to play at a high level. I am so happy for him and pleased with the progress from all of our young guys.”

Croyder put the Bulldogs up 3-0 against the 20th-ranked Crimson Tide with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Jeremy Gschwendtner. Gschwendtner came into Friday’s match with a 10-1 record, including a 6-0 mark against SEC foes.

On Sunday against Auburn, Croyder picked up Georgia’s first doubles and first singles wins to help the Bulldogs build an early lead on their way to a 4-1 victory. Croyder finished the week with an overall combined record of 4-1 in singles and doubles.

Croyder and the Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 19 nationally and return home to host Arkansas at 1 p.m. this Sunday for Senior Day.
