The 11th-seeded University of Georgia men’s tennis team continues its 2021 NCAA Tournament run today at 10 a.m. ET as the Bulldogs take on No. 6 seed North Carolina in the NCAA Round of 16 at the USTA National Campus.
This marks the 42nd NCAA Tournament appearance for the Bulldogs.
Georgia enters today’s match 16-6 overall and 8-4 in SEC play. North Carolina is currently 21-3 overall, including a 9-2 ACC mark.
In the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings, the Tarheels checked in at No. 6, while the Bulldogs secured their spot as the 11th-ranked team in the nation.
“Our guys are well prepared,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “It’s been a great year. In the first and second rounds, our guys showed tremendous resolve against some good teams that really played hard against us. We’re playing very well, so I feel good about where we are, and we’re excited to be going to Lake Nona.”
Georgia defeated ETSU and No. 25 Texas Tech – both by 4-0 scores – in the NCAA first and second rounds to stamp its ticket to the NCAA Round of 16. North Carolina also blanked both of its first and second-round opponents to advance.
Today’s match will mark the sixth NCAA Tournament meeting in the last 10 years between the Tarheels and Bulldogs, with North Carolina owning a 3-2 record during that time period. Georgia owns a 13-10 all-time series record over North Carolina.
