It’s an event that annually features over 200 of the best tennis players from all across the southeast. In 2020, the 53rd Southern Intercollegiate Championships will have a new look, but will carry on the same great tradition. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and SEC protocols regarding fall tennis competition, this year’s Southern Intercollegiates will feature over 40 players from four league schools — Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Play begins at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Georgia student-athletes compete against players from Ole Miss at Henry Feild Stadium, while the Gators and Tigers face off at the McWhorter Courts on Friday.  

“Our guys are thrilled to host an event in Athens, and I know the other teams are excited about playing here,” Bulldog head coach Manny Diaz said. “Ole Miss, Florida and Auburn all have really great players and there is going to be a high-level of competition in every match. Our players have continued to work hard and improve this fall. This is another opportunity for us to get better as we prepare for the spring season.” 

All-American Trent Bryde has led the Bulldogs this fall. He boasts a 4-1 overall singles record and has teamed with fellow All-American Tyler Zink for a 3-1 mark in doubles. 

Graduate transfer Billy Rowe won his first match as a Bulldog during the Gamecock SEC Shootout, taking down Texas A&M’s Guido Marson. Rowe and Erik Grevelius also went 2-0 in doubles during their last event.

FAN ATTENDANCE POLICY

Spectator attendance will be limited to guests of the respective team members via pass list. No other fans will be allowed inside the Dan Magill Tennis Complex during the fall. 

Approved fans on the pass list should remain socially distant throughout the stadium. If matches are moved indoors, no spectators will be allowed inside the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor facility.

*Each day, there is a chance players from teams not scheduled to play each other will play each other. For instance, several student-athletes from Georgia and Auburn could play each other on Friday, even though Georgia is scheduled to play Ole Miss.
