Singles wins from Georgia men’s tennis players Trent Bryde and Baptiste Anselmo highlighted Saturday’s action for the Bulldogs at the Gamecock SEC Scramble.
In a battle between a pair of All-Americans, Bryde looked strong from the start on his way to defeating Florida’s Sam Riffice, 6-2, 6-4. The Gator team captain — who was ranked in the top-4 nationally most of last spring — went 11-3 at the top two singles spots last year.
Anselmo followed Bryde’s victory with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph against Ben Shelton. In all, Florida put together six total singles wins and a trio of doubles victories against Georgia.
In doubles, Billy Rowe and Erik Grevelius improved to 2-0 this weekend. With their match tied at 5-5, they won two-straight games en route to an 8-6 win against Florida’s Blaise Bicknell and Andy Andrade.
Rowe and Grevelius then had several opportunities to carry their singles matches, but each lost in close three-set battles.
The Bulldogs will go against host-school South Carolina on Sunday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
