University of Georgia men’s tennis duo of Trent Bryde and Tyler Zink claimed a first-round doubles victory Monday afternoon to punch a ticket to the NCAA Doubles Championship Round of 16 at the USTA National Campus.
Bryde and Zink won a relatively quick first set, 6-3, but No. 68 Rice team of Sumit Sarkar and Conrad Russell answered by taking the next by a score of 6-2. The match would come down to a 10-point match tiebreak, in which the Bulldogs took, 10-4, to seal the win (6-3, 2-6, 10-4) and advance to tomorrow’s competition.
Today’s doubles victory comes after the Bulldogs dropped all three Round of 64 singles matches during yesterday’s NCAA Singles Championships.
Looking ahead, Bryde and Zink will face the winner of the Pepperdine-Florida match happening later this evening during tomorrow’s Round of 16. Match time is to be determined.
