University of Georgia men’s tennis student-athlete Trent Bryde made the most of his opening event of the 2020 fall season, earning the singles and doubles titles at the Gamecock Southeastern Conference Scramble. 

Bryde was the highlight of a successful weekend for the Bulldogs, posting perfect 3-0 records in both singles and doubles. The 2020 ITA All-American teamed with fellow All-American Tyler Zink to record a trio of doubles victories against Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina. 

“It was a great week for Trent as well as Tyler,” head coach Manny Diaz said. “They responded well to many challenges in doubles. Trent continues to impress in singles. He showed great fight and composure, especially the last two days after losing the first set. Our entire team knows we can get better and understands our conference is loaded. It is going to take hard work.”

On Sunday, Georgia and South Carolina split the four doubles courts, with each squad winning two matches. Bryde and Zink took an 8-3 triumph, while the Bulldog tandem of Baptiste Anselmo and Erik Grevelius went down 5-4, but won the last four games to record an 8-4 victory. 

Georgia totaled three singles wins on Sunday, with Zink and Blake Croyder posting the first two. Zink ousted Connor Thompson, who had a tremendous freshman season last year with 24 singles wins. Croyder defeated Phillip Jordan, 6-2, 7-6. 

After falling 6-2 in the first set, Bryde rebounded to knock off Raphael Lambling, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. Lambling totaled nine wins at the second and third singles courts for the Gamecocks last dual-match season. 

Georgia returns to action Oct. 23-25 for the next SEC event, which will feature South Carolina, Florida and Texas A&M. That event will also take place in Columbia, S.C.
